Nellikai / Amla /Gooseberry Thokku

Ingredients:
Nellikai (Amla) (goose berry) - 1/4kg

Red Chilly powder - 3-4 tsps

Haldi powder - 1/2 tsp

Methi seeds (Fenugreek seeds) - 1/2 tsp

Hing - 1/4 tsp

Salt as required

Oil

Mustard seeds - 1 tsp

Method:
Wash the amlas /Gooseberries nicely.

Grate the amlas through a manual grater.

I grated /chopped the amlas into small bite sized pieces in my Black and Decker chopper.

Take a kadai and dry roast the methi seeds and powder finely.

In the same kadai pour some oil and season with mustard seeds, hing.

Now put the chopped amla bits on the seasoning and mix nicely.

Now add salt haldi powder and red chilly powder and mix nicely.

Keep on the stirring the mixture till the raw smell ceases.

You can add more oil while stirring to cover the mixture.

Just keep on stirring and the mixture absorbs all the oil, cooks well and becomes thick.

Now off the gas and let the thokku cool.

The Nellikai /Amla /Gooseberry thokku is thick and ready to be had with anything.

You can have it with Curd rice, Upma, Adai , Dosai etc
